The Most Expensive CS2 Knife: Grail, Record and Reality (2026)

The most expensive CS2 knife is the Karambit Case Hardened blue gem #387 in Factory New, valued at $1.5–2 million — but that figure is an offer its owner refused, not a sale, and no Karambit has ever traded publicly at that level. The most expensive knife you can actually buy is a pattern-locked phase: a Butterfly Gamma Doppler Emerald listed to $17,300, or a Karambit Doppler Ruby or Sapphire in the $11,000–13,000 range, all checked 9 September 2026.

Knives are where the biggest quiet money in Counter-Strike lives, and where the gap between headline and reality is widest. This file separates the three things that get called “the most expensive knife”: the appraised grail, the deepest tradeable market, and the record by shape and finish.

The grail: an offer, not a price

The Karambit Case Hardened #387 is the most valuable knife on paper. It is the one Factory New copy of the pattern with an almost fully blue play side, held by a collector who has publicly turned down offers reported around $1.2 million, which is where the $1.5–2 million valuation comes from. Because it has never sold in the open, it has no price — only an appraisal. That is why our most expensive CS2 skins board ranks it below the AK-47 that actually changed hands for over a million dollars.

The knives that actually trade in five figures

Below the grail, the real market is in pattern-locked Doppler phases. Gamma Doppler Emerald, Doppler Ruby and Doppler Sapphire are fixed at the moment of the drop and capped at 0.08 float, so supply is a tiny, permanent fraction of all Dopplers. On 9 September 2026 the Karambit Ruby ran $7,300–11,600 across 255 listings and the Sapphire $4,400–13,000 across 274 — deep enough order books that these are prices you can transact, not one seller's fantasy. The Butterfly Emerald's lowest ask was about $7,800 with listings to $17,300.

These phases barely moved in the October 2025 crash that halved ordinary knives, which is the clearest evidence that the trade-up update repriced supply rather than desire. The whole story of that day is in the CS2 skin market crash explained.

What makes a phase a phase is worth understanding before you spend five figures. Regular Dopplers come in numbered phases 1 through 4, plus the rare Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl; Gamma Dopplers add the Emerald. The gem phases are not a finish you apply — they are locked in at the drop, cannot be traded up to, and are capped at a 0.08 maximum float, so every copy is close to Factory New. That fixed, tiny supply is why a Sapphire Karambit can hold $10,000 while a Phase 2 of the same knife sells for a few hundred.

The record by base finish

Set the pattern lotteries and gem phases aside and the most expensive base finish is the Fade. A Butterfly Knife Fade ran about $2,100–2,250 in Factory New on the check-date, the dearest standard-finish knife in the game, with the Karambit Fade just behind at $1,750–1,850. The Fade's appeal is a full, clean gradient with no pattern lottery to worry about — what you see is what every copy looks like — which makes it the safe blue-chip of the knife market.

Below the Fade sit the Marble Fade, the Lore, the Autotronic and the standard Doppler phases, most trading from the mid hundreds into four figures depending on shape. Shape prestige compounds every finish: the same Fade is worth more on a Karambit or Butterfly than on a Gut Knife or Navaja, and a StatTrak counter adds a further premium on top. The result is a ladder where finish, shape and StatTrak each multiply the last.

The record by shape

By shape, the Karambit holds every headline: the blue gem grail, the deepest Ruby and Sapphire books, and the Crimson Web whose all-time high of $18,007 was set on 16 November 2025, after the crash. The Butterfly Knife is second in prestige but first in base-finish price — its Fade runs about $2,100–2,250 in Factory New, ahead of the Karambit Fade's $1,750–1,850. Rarer shapes such as the Talon and Skeleton command premiums of their own; a StatTrak Skeleton Crimson Web was listed near $17,000 in an August 2026 third-party list.

How the October 2025 update reset the knife ceiling

Before 23 October 2025, the priciest standard knives cleared five figures comfortably and an M9 Bayonet Fade sat around $2,450. The trade-up update let players craft knives from five Covert skins, and the standard market roughly halved overnight — that same M9 Fade fell to about $700. What survived were the items scarcity could not manufacture: pattern lotteries, low-float finishes and the phases above. The knife market by 2026 is a two-tier world, and the top tier is more concentrated than ever.

The recovery was uneven, and that is the useful part. Standard finishes that could now be crafted stayed depressed, while anything supply-locked recovered or even climbed — the Karambit Crimson Web set its all-time high three weeks after the crash. If you are buying a knife as a record piece rather than to use, the lesson of the year is blunt: pay for the kind of scarcity a trade-up cannot reproduce, and treat everything else as a cosmetic you might lose half of overnight. The same warning, applied to the whole market, is in is investing in CS2 skins worth it.

Where the five-figure knives change hands

Knives at this level sell on peer-to-peer markets that show float and pattern on the listing, because on these items the pattern index is the price. CSFloat charges sellers 2% and surfaces all three fields; Skinport charges 6% above €1,000 and nothing to buyers; DMarket runs about 2% on liquid items. Record questions

What is the most expensive CS2 knife?
The Karambit Case Hardened blue gem #387 in Factory New, valued at $1.5–2 million after a reported $1.2 million offer was refused. It has never sold publicly, so the figure is a valuation, not a price.
What is the most expensive knife you can actually buy?
On 9 September 2026, pattern-locked phases: a Butterfly Gamma Doppler Emerald listed to $17,300, a Karambit Ruby to $11,600, and a Karambit Sapphire to $13,000, plus a Karambit Crimson Web from $6,400 in Factory New.
Is the Karambit or the Butterfly the most expensive knife?
The Karambit holds every record item and the deepest five-figure markets. The Butterfly has the highest base-finish price — its Fade beats the Karambit Fade — but not the top-end grails.
Did knives crash in October 2025?
Yes. The 23 October 2025 trade-up update roughly halved standard knives — an M9 Fade fell from about $2,450 to $700 — but pattern-locked phases and low-float finishes barely moved.
